I recently purchased a new iPod and I’ve been obsessed with some of the games I can download on it. I’m cheap, so I stick with the free ones. Checkers is now among my favorites.
I get caught up in how much I think before every move or series of moves. My mind processes the board something like this, “If I go here, the other player (computer) will go here… or, if I sacrifice one “man” here, he’ll jump me here and it will set me up so that I can double or triple jump him over there…”
This mind exercise has taught me well. The other day, Jen and I were talking about something really, really important. And then she asked me a question — I was pinned in the corner. “If I say this, she’ll respond by saying this… or, if I affirm this, she’ll let me do this…“
Relational insight from a board game; a timeless truth, Think Before You Move… or Speak!
